We are pleased to have moved to our new venue, The North Rand Methodist Church, 174 Blandford Road, North Riding, Randburg.This is an exciting time for us. Not having to worry financially, we are going to be very happy in this new venue, I am sure.
We thought we would add to the excitement by having our Birthday Party as well. We are 15 years old now and have done very well to get back on our feet again, after the shock of Covid. It was not easy for us as with everyone else, to recover, going from 700 to 250 members. It has taken hard graft to at least retaining some of those members and welcoming new ones.We now have approximately 450 members, and as long as we can get new members monthly, and you members support us, we shall survive. So,after the 5th August speaker we will be serving complimentary refreshments, to thank you for still being part of Joburg North U3A.
Unbeknown to us, when we were planning our Birthday treat, we found that the whole of U3A in South Africa is celebrating their 25thAnniversary, when a branch in Cape Town was inaugurated in August 2000!There are now approximately 30 branches all over South Africa, so I think it is only fitting that we send Greetings to all other branches and members HAPPY BIRTHDAY U3A !!!!!!!
Also, we would like to welcome our new Secretary,Beryl Sparks to the fold. We are pleased that she has settled into our Committee and is a very willing and able Secretary. Welcome Beryl.

Dr Neil Viljoen is a Curator and Custodian of Northwards, the historical home situated in Parktown, Johannesburg designed by Sir Herbert Baker. Neil will show us various sites and buildings, and how they occupy their sites vertically and horizontally as well as what goes into a dwelling to make it what it is. This includes the people that gather inside and live and work there and many more interesting facts. See and hear something that you have never seen before.
